Individual traffic calming devices are generally categorized into
four groups:
-
Vertical Deflection
-
Horizontal Deflection
|
-
Volume Control
-
Supporting
|
Vertical deflection impedes motorists
by placing raised devices on roads, horizontal deflection narrows
roads or deflects motorists to the right or left, volume control
restricts access to certain roads and neighbourhoods, and
supporting devices may not have anything to do with traffic
calming, but are built in support of its devices.
