Binnie provided highway and traffic engineering services to WSP|MMM Group’s Owner’s Engineer assignment for British Columbia’s George Massey Tunnel Replacement Project (GMTR).
The GMTR Project includes replacement of the existing Massey Tunnel with a new crossing along with more than 200 lane kilometres of highway widening (including dedicated transit/HOV lanes). The project also includes the construction of new interchanges, modifications to existing interchanges, transit facilities, modifications/replacement of existing interchange bridges, and decommissioning of the existing tunnel.
The scope of the GMTR Owner’s Engineer assignment involved development of a Reference Concept design, preparation of the project cost estimate, preparation of design specifications, contract procurement, and engineering oversight. Binnie was primarily responsible for the highway-related works, including traffic modelling and analysis.
