Binnie is honoured to receive a 2026 ACEC-BC Award of Excellence for our Silver Skagit Road Flood Recovery project.
The award was won in the Natural Resource and Habitat Category which recognizes technical excellence and innovation in engineering related to the protection or enhancement of natural resources and habitat.
The Silver Skagit Road Flood Recovery project was an emergency infrastructure rehabilitation project identified by the Ministry of Transportation and Transit following the 2021 atmospheric river event in British Columbia. The storm caused extensive damage along Silver Skagit Road between Hope and the United States border, including roadway failures, embankment erosion, and culvert washouts. Binnie spearheaded the emergency design response to restore access along the 58-kilometre corridor and upgrade infrastructure to strengthen long-term climate resilience. Our work included repairing multiple flood-damaged sites through culvert upgrades, roadway reconstruction and realignment, and embankment stabilization, while incorporating environmental enhancements such as habitat restoration.
At Binnie, we are proud to deliver engineering solutions that keep our communities connected, now and into the future. This recognition highlights our commitment to technical excellence, creativity, and collaboration. We are thankful to our project partners, stakeholders, and to our team for their contributions to successfully re-open this vital transportation corridor.
Thank you to ACEC-BC for this recognition and congratulations to the entire project team.
