In 2015, Fraser Health Authority retained Cannon Design to provide architectural services for the planning, procurement, implementation and close-out of the Royal Columbian Hospital Redevelopment Project. A new mental health and substance use facility was built as part of the multi-phased project. Construction costs are estimated at $203 million.
Working for Cannon Design, Binnie provided civil engineering and landscape architecture advisory services.
Specifically, Binnie provided expertise for the civil engineering design and construction of all on- and off-site infrastructure. Further, Binnie provided landscape and open space development of the on-and off-site landscape infrastructure, including the indicative design for a green roof and a living wall.
The indicative design which Binnie completed for the RFP is much like a performance specification that outlines what the project owner wants. Binnie’s indicative design guided the proponents in competing for the project, and assist the owner in choosing the ideal designer. Binnie also supported the Health Authority by reviewing the submissions from other engineering and landscape architecture firms.
