December 2019 – June 2021
Project Value: $1.5
BCIT retained Binnie to modernize the Telus Lecture Theatre at SE06 by replacing the seating and flooring, reconstructing the ceiling, implementing new wall finishes with acoustic improvements, and replacing audiovisual equipment with new state-of-the-art technology. The theatre’s purpose is to be used as a traditional learning space and include integrated technological upgrades to serve as a community education source to hold and stream seminars such as TED Talks.
As the project manager, Binnie liaised between the project team and the key BCIT stakeholders to develop a detailed design, produce tender documents, assist through the tender period, and contract award, and manage the project team and contractor through construction and project closeout. Additionally, Binnie’s role as the Owner’s Representative included managing the Prime Consultant, General Contractor, and other owner’s consultants and sub-contractors to deliver the new facility.
During construction, Binnie’s role as the Project Manager and Owner’s Representative included managing cost, schedule, change, and stakeholders. The existing building presented several obstacles—including roof leaks, existing infrastructure varying from As- Builts, and procurement delays. Binnie overcame these challenges with efficient coordination between consultant and builder.
The project was faced with schedule challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic; however, Binnie was able to deliver it on budget and on a schedule that met our client’s needs.
The project was ultimately completed in June 2021.
