The City of Burnaby selected our landscape architecture team to provide conceptual and detailed trail design for the 3.9-kilometre perimeter trail in Central Park, a city-wide destination for sport, recreation, and leisure activities. The updated trail offers visitors a new, accessible way to explore the park’s amenities and recreation spaces.
Our multi-use design offers a safer and user-friendly trail experience for all. Convenient seating nodes are located long the perimeter trail and at the entry into the internal park trail network. The new rubber trail surface provides comfortable low-impact walking and jogging for users. The trail surface profile is designed to be built up over the sensitive root system of existing significant trees to reduce disturbance. This allows for better preservation of this highly valuable and high-profile urban forest.
Comprising three phases, the trail’s first phase was completed in 2017 and the second phase was completed at the end of Summer 2019. The third phase was completed in 2022.
