Binnie (Omni Engineering) was engaged to re-design the existing dust suppression system onsite due to it nearing the end of its service life and requiring increased maintenance to maintain and operate the system. The re-design focused on improving the serviceability and reliability of the system. The dust suppression upgrade included the construction of (5) centralized valve distribution buildings to supply recycled water to (95) new rain bird yard sprays and (10) existing Highmast installed throughout the 100-acre site, (2) VFD controlled pump houses and a PRV controlled enclosure supplying (12) new High mast Spray Towers onsite.
The valve distribution building and pump house were constructed within a modified 40-foot shipping container. By using the modified containers, the construction of the mechanical and electrical work was primarily done offsite which allowed for more efficient and streamlined construction at the contractor’s yard.
The high mast spray towers stand 100 feet tall with a 130-foot boom complete with misting sprays. They are used to moisten the coal piles during wind events.
