The Pod 5 Terminal Facilities project, a part of the Deltaport Berth 3 Expansion at Roberts Bank, involved the development of 20ha of additional container yard and handling facilities, increasing the container capacity of the terminal by 50%.
The works included the design and construction of the container yard pavement, underground utilities and electrical services, including the high voltage infrastructure for the new gantry cranes. Challenges included preparing the variable subgrade, establishing design grading to allow for long-term site settlement, and designing a pavement structure to provide for future modifications to the container handling operations.
