John Hindle Drive

The $12 M John Hindle Drive project was delivered for an owner partnership which includes the BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MOTI), the city of Kelowna, and the University of British Columbia, Okanagan. John Hindle Drive is a new 3.9-km long east-west arterial road that stretches from Glenmore Road to the Hollywood Road North southern roundabout.

Binnie Construction Services’ assignments and responsibilities on the project included design review, constructability and staging review, tender documents review, writing of the special contract provisions, construction management, contract administration and quality assurance.

This project is particularly important because the new facility provides a direct link from communities along Glenmore Road to the University of British Columbia Okanagan (UBCO) campus and the Kelowna International Airport. Furthermore, it also provides an additional access route to the regional Landfill for traffic arriving from the Rutland area.

The community will benefit from this new east-west connector that has a standardized design speed of 60 km/h and a posted speed limit of 50 km/h.  An additional feature of the facility is the opening of the Highway 97 northbound UBCO offramp to two lanes with the construction of the Hollywood Road North southern roundabout bypass lane, which eliminates the backing up of traffic onto Highway 97 NB during the morning rush.
