The Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine (RDKS) retained Binnie to help manage the design and construction of the Thornhill Transfer Station and Forcemain Ridge Landfill. The objective of the project was to improve solid waste infrastructure within the District, thereby providing cleaner water and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. This project ultimately ensured protection of the public health and environmental stewardship.
Binnie’s overall role was to provide project management, administration, and project control services. Binnie was responsible for evaluating and prioritizing deliverables and requirements on behalf of the RDKS, ensuring that their interests were properly addressed at all times. Work involved actively communicating with stakeholders and coordinating various departments within the RDKS.
During the design phase, Binnie was responsible for formulating and managing project plans. This involved defining objectives, identifying key milestones, reviewing overall progress, conducting design reviews, and engaging in ongoing risk assessment/management.
In the procurement phase, Binnie supported the RDKS and the lead design engineer by helping them navigate through several multi-million dollar construction contracts.
During construction, staff tracked costs, prepared budget reviews, tracked construction progress against established baselines, and ensured that the project met its objectives.
Binnie continues to remain active on several other solid waste management projects in the area.
