The Vanterm Capacity Expansion involved the demolition and re-grading of several large loading docks to provide additional space for container storage and handling. The intent of the expansion was to increase on-site container storage space and streamline the migration of inbound and outbound truck and rail containers through the terminal. The work included new site services to handle stormwater run-off, improved outgate facilities, additional power requirements for the new dockside gantry cranes, yard lighting and a secondary intermodal rail handling area.
A significant amount of planning was required to stage various construction activities to keep the terminal in operation throughout construction.
