Binnie’s landscape architecture team worked with the District of North Vancouver to refine the Seylynn Park master plan to achieve the District’s final vision for the park, help meet current and future leisure and recreational demands of a growing Lower Lynn Creek Town Centre neighbourhood while protecting the natural environment of the Lynn Creek Corridor.
Binnie provided detail plans for the overall park and assisted with the conceptual design for the park frontage on Hunter Street and Mountain Highway as it would eventually be bounded on two sides by residential towers to create a new urban edge. Binnie’s work includes rainwater management, site layout and design, pedestrian circulation, landscape enhancements, streetscape design, contract, and construction administration.
The District’s goal for vibrant, safe, and accessible park amenities guided our park design to include for phase one entry plaza, seating, paved promenade, grass oval – multi-use sports field, perimeter pathway, rain gardens, seating walls, and connection to Spirit Trail. In a future phase a washroom building, park shelter, sport court , community garden, an intimate playground, and splash pad will be added. The play space design integrates familiar play equipment with custom-designed nature and water play elements. The revitalized park space provides access to needed leisure and recreation spaces, venue for formal or informal community events and gatherings, as well presents opportunities for environmental stewardship and education. .
