CWA engaged Binnie (Omni Engineering Inc.) to develop a fully automated, high-pressure spray-down system for the bridge and boom pans. The design included water distribution, spray nozzle selection, hose bibs, and an electrically automated valve system for simple operation.
Initially, in order to reduce spillage and mitigate potential environmental risks at Berth 4, CWA Engineers Inc. was commissioned by KMCT to design a fully enclosed self-cleaning containment pan system. The system comprised of an innovative pan catenary containment design on the ship loader bridge, standard spill trays on the boom, an automated washdown system on the bridge and boom pans, and a trough styled laundered to convey wash water flows into a single discharge point regardless of the ship loader being in the shuttle or pivot position.
