SkyRidge at Squamish | Diamond Head Development

A progressive 20-acre mixed-use community project

SkyRidge at Squamish and Community Impact

SkyRidge at Squamish is a sprawling multi-family, mixed-use development project in the Garibaldi Estates neighbourhood of Squamish, BC. Spanning 20 acres, it is the largest master-planned community in the area and provides residents with a diverse array of living options, including single family units, duplexes, townhouses, and an apartment complex. The development also features a private elementary school and daycare.

Through our comprehensive approach, Binnie contributed to the long-term sustainability and community wellbeing of the SkyRidge at Squamish development.

Binnie’s Role

Starting from the initial planning stages, Binnie played a pivotal role in the SkyRidge at Squamish project. By collaborating with the developer, architects, and planners at the District of Squamish, we helped create the master plan by offering various options and schemes. Our tasks included reviewing the existing topography and preparing building platforms for the various buildings. Part of the process to acquire crown land, is a review by the Indigenous group of the region. Part of the development met crown land, so coordination and review by the crown and the Squamish Nation was required by the developer. We provided drawings and verbiage to present to the two groups to help justify the design.

As the project progressed into the design phase, we designed the comprehensive stormwater management strategy and provided the civil engineering services required to advance the development. We also coordinated with sub-consultants to address the electrical, street lighting, and landscape designs mandated by the District of Squamish and the developer’s Servicing Agreement. Throughout construction, our inspectors confirmed the project’s compliance with bylaws and design specifications by meticulously documenting all construction activities as per the Servicing Agreement.

Project Challenge and Our Unique Solution

The SkyRidge at Squamish project posed unique environmental challenges that Binnie successfully addressed. By integrating sustainable practices and adhering to Built Green® community standards, we prioritized environmentally focused solutions. The result was a stormwater management strategy that provided mitigation options for potential environmental impacts and recommendations on improving water quality.
