Vancouver Track and Field Strategy
In 2017, the Park Board retained Binnie to lead the consulting team to develop a long-range strategic plan to guide the planning, and redevelopment of existing track and field sport facilities in Vancouver. The project scope included assessing current conditions and determining a vision, principles, and strategic recommendations for planning, designing, programming, accessing, operating, and maintaining facilities.
The phased 10-year implementation plan includes recommendations for locating and developing a competitive, eight-lane International Associations of Athletics Federations facility that will support high-level competition and training amenities for running, jumping, and throwing events. Our team also provided the Park Board with a better understanding of recreational and non-competitive demands and allocations for track facilities resulting in recommendations that addressed spontaneous use and access for recreational users. The strategy was strongly supported by community stakeholders and participants in the track and field sport community. It was unanimously endorsed by the Park Board in the fall of 2019.
