Highway 97 Widening – Prince George

Highway 97 Widening – Prince George

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure retained Binnie on this $22.8 million initiative to widen Highway 97 to a four-lane standard, from the Simon Fraser Bridge to Sintich Road in Prince George, BC. The project was broken into two phases due to its size. Phase 1 involved widening a 2.4-kilometre section – from the Fraser River Bridge to the Continental Overpass. Phase 2 involved widening a 3.3-kilometre section joining Phase 1.  The construction included roadway and drainage works, augured steel drainage pipes, paving, a traffic signalled intersection, 230-metre, soil-anchored retaining wall, and median barrier.

Binnie provided construction supervision services, survey, and Quality Assurance as part of a multi-disciplinary field team that included construction experts, surveyors, and geotechnical engineers.  The Binnie team performed Quality Assurance inspections and reviewed contractor submittals (Quality Control Plan, Traffic Management Plan, and Site Safety Plan).  The team also surveyed quantities and kept the Ministry Project Manager up to date regarding project scope, schedule, and budget.
