Last week, Binnie was proud to take part in the 2025 Transportation Conference, hosted by the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies BC (ACEC-BC) in partnership with the Ministry of Transportation and Transit (MOTT) and TransLink. The two-day event brought together industry leaders, project partners, and innovators to discuss the latest trends and future direction of BC’s transportation sector.

On January 29th, our team tuned into a series of insightful virtual talks and presentations, where experts shared their perspectives on emerging transportation challenges and solutions. Binnie’s Martin Fyfe, who leads our Traffic Services team, moderated a key session on Procurement Models with guest speaker Joel Weiss from Infrastructure BC. As Chair of the Conference Organizing Committee, Martin played a crucial role in shaping the event and driving meaningful discussions that will influence industry practices.

The conference concluded with the BC Transportation Consulting Engineers Awards, where Binnie was honoured to be nominated for three awards—and we’re thrilled to share that we took home the Award of Excellence in Active Transportation!

Winner: Award of Excellence 2025 for Active Transportation Achievement
Project: Highway 1 – Chase Creek Road to Chase West
Location: Highway 1 between Neskonlith Community and the Village of Chase

The Highway 1 Chase West four-laning project prioritizes safety and accessibility for the Neskonlith Community and the Village of Chase. By widening a 3.3-kilometer section of highway and constructing two at-grade protected T-intersections, the project enhances active transportation options while improving overall connectivity.

Our team worked to develop a comprehensive active transportation network, including:

  • A grade-separated tunnel
  • Multi-use paths and crosswalks
  • Paved shoulders for cyclists and pedestrians
  • A livestock underpass for the local farming community
