On Saturday, September 13, Binnie Landscape Architecture Manager, Blair Arbuthnot and Parks Specialist, Bob Paterson joined representatives from Delta at the grand opening of the Dugald Morrison Synthetic Turf Field, at 5755 Mountain View Boulevard. Mayor Lois Jackson, Delta Council and local sport organizations attended.

The field was completed as part of the Ladner Sport Field Enhancement Project. The condition of existing natural sport fields in Ladner were causing them to be closed due to weather conditions, high water table issues and wildlife stripping off the surface grass. As a result, games and practices were being moved to Holly Park. To remedy this problem, the Corporation has invested in the addition of the new synthetic turf field at Dugald Morrison Park, as well as improvements to fields at two other parks.

Binnie’s Landscape Architecture, Sports & Recreation Division provided the design of the new soccer/softball combination synthetic field, new parking lot, reconstruction of 57th Street, survey, contract administration, and inspection services at Dugald Morrison Field. Binnie also provided design and construction services for a new natural grass baseball field at Cromie Park which opened earlier this spring, as well as two new natural grass softball fields at Hawthorne Park slated to open in the spring of 2015 – all part of the Ladner Sport Field Enhancement Project.
