We are excited to announce that Binnie has won the 2023 ACEC-BC Award of Excellence for RapidBus Launch for routes R1 through R5 under the Alternate Transportation category. The winners were announced at the B.C. Transportation Conference for the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies – British Columbia, held in Vancouver on February 1^st, 2023.

Our award was accepted by Simon Lee, P.Eng., PMP – who not only worked on the project but also leads our Project Delivery team.

For this project, we provided project management for this route expansion, as part of ongoing RapidBus expansion work. Working with the ministry, eight municipalities, one health authority and four contractors, our team oversaw a complex and fast-paced project that included road widening, intersection improvements and new multi-user pathways, bus stops and bus priority infrastructure. As a result, bus service became faster and more frequent and convenient, with real-time departure data on Bus ID poles.  The five routes now have the combined capacity to move 12,000 customers per hour during rush hour, with more expansions underway and planned.
