On Saturday, September 18, 2021, RISE hosted its first in-person social event – the Jug Island Hike in Belcarra Regional Park.
(We would like to acknowledge that these hikes take place on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded lands of Coast Salish peoples including the Musqueam, Qayqayt, Stó:lō, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh.)
The hike began at 9:00 AM and lasted about 2 hours for a total of 5 km with 8 RISE members. RISE members took a break by looking for sea stars on the beach. Luckily, the morning proved to be sufficient enough for the hike!
“It was a nice chance to enjoy nature and get to know some of the women that work at Binnie,” said Communications Lead, Kyra Ching.
Hikers prepared by bringing the following:
- Travel mug for morning coffee
- Mask
- Hiking Clothes/Gear, which included:
- Proper closed-toed footwear
- Water
- Appropriately warm clothing/ extra layers
- Sunscreen
- Sunglasses
- Hat
- Bug spray
Our RISE members also considered the Leave No Trace principles.
