On Saturday, September 27th, the Comox Valley Regional District officially opened the new Comox Valley synthetic turf sports field at G.P. Vanier Secondary School. With funding from three partners and land donated from School District No. 71, the new field will provide year-round sports for the community and in particular, the Comox Valley United Soccer Club, which put substantial efforts into raising funds for an improved field.

Binnie’s part began in 2012 when the District enlisted Binnie to provide a feasibility study for the new field. For the last year, Binnie has provided project management, detailed design, topographic survey, tender services, construction administration and inspection.

This is the first Artificial Turf Field in the Comox Valley, and will be heavily used by local youth for soccer and field lacrosse. The field replaces an aging existing all weather gravel field that was underutilized. The new facility includes field lining for full and mini soccer, and field lacrosse, as well as providing shelters for players and parents alike. Binnie’s Design Team, led by Catherine Eiswerth, provided for a cost-effective solution by using the previous all weather gravel field as a base for the new field and installing new drainage.

The residents of the Comox Valley now have a top tier athletic facility suitable for regional tournaments and events.
