In 2016, Binnie was retained to provide design and construction contract administration for the 192 Street Widening Project from 40th Avenue to Colebrook Rd by the City of Surrey. This project was meant to address traffic volume, truck routing, and to add corridor improvements to support the Roberts Bank Bridge projects connecting Campbell Heights industrial park and Langley. The valuation of this project was over $7.2 million.
Binnie provided preliminary and detailed design, project management, and public consultation services for 192 Street from 40 Avenue to 5000 Block, and for 51B Avenue/188.
This project included:
- road widening
- storm sewer upgrades
- new street lighting
The work enhanced the safety in that section, improved traffic operations, and provided new bike facilities. Additionally, it minimized right-of-way acquisition requirements and avoided the need to apply for the Agricultural Land Commission for a Transportation, Utility, or Recreational Trail Use permit. Maintaining and improving agricultural access and circulation was essential to the success of this project. Further, repaving the road allowed for future traffic growth and increased truck traffic.
Upon completion, the client voiced high satisfaction with the collaboration and the way the project was managed. Furthermore, the project was completed on time and under budget.
Construction on the project was completed in 2019 several months ahead of schedule.
