The City of Burnaby has an ongoing initiative to replace aging water mains and make hydraulic improvements to areas in demand. Binnie has completed 19 water main replacement programs on behalf of the City over many years of working together.
On a recent project, the 2014 Watermain Package C, the City retained Binnie to provide preliminary design, detailed design, and contract administration services. The project involved 2,643 metres of water main replacement. Copper connections older than 25-30 years, or made of polybutylene, were replaced. Binnie recommended final water main alignments based on cost benefits and construction impact. Further, Binnie provided a review of fire hydrant spacing and incorporated that information into the design to ensure adequate coverage in the project area.
