Binnie worked with Benchmark Projects Ltd. To provide conceptual design through full conversion of the four board fields to one synthetic turf field within the Calgary West Soccer Centre. The overall intent of the project was to allow for a continuous boardless playing field environment. The new field layout allowed flexibility for four U8 fields, three U7 fields, and one full size soccer field (60 m by 110 m).
The full-size soccer field was one of only two FIFA Pro Quality surfaces in Canada. The synthetic turf is a hybrid turf system (monofilament and slit film fibre) on elastic layer and infill material is EPDM infill material. Binnie’s Project Manager worked closely with Calgary Minor Soccer Association during the request for proposals (RFPs), synthetic turf selection, and with Benchmark Projects Ltd.’s general contractor to ensure that the right contractors and products were selected for this project.
Binnie’s scope of work also included leading the overall building permit approval process and working closely with architectural, electrical, and mechanical consultants. Binnie’s in-house team provided expertise for the electrical, air supported structure modifications, artificial turf installation, and site furniture upgrades.
