In 2019, Binnie’s services were requested to confirm the plumbness of elevator shafts of a high-rise tower under construction. Staff completed a 3D scan of a newly constructed 43-story elevator shaft at 8X on the Park, a new residential high-rise building at the intersection of Helmcken St and Richards St in Yaletown, Vancouver.
The team used the Trimble SX10, a robotic totalstation with laser scanning capabilities, to capture the structural data.
The scan was performed to assess the plumbness and squareness of the elevator shaft, as the elevators themselves did not fit the elevator core. Binnie provided Ledcor with a Heat Map indicating the areas within or beyond the tolerances of the entire elevator shafts showing cut/fills where the concrete was not level/plumb based on the point cloud compared to the design dimensions.
With this, Ledcor was able to minimize the amount of grinding required to fit the elevator shaft.
