After investing considerable effort to actively engage the public, community members, and stakeholders in the planning and design process, the City of North Vancouver required a sports field expert to design and construct the multi-million-dollar track and field facility at Fen Burdett Stadium.
Binnie was retained—following our prior work on a feasibility study for the stadium—to realize the City’s vision of developing an artificial turf field (ATF), community recreation track, and fitness park facility to establish a centre of field sport excellence and a focal point for the community.
Our design focused on imbuing the multi-use facility with an inclusivity that is often absent from sports complexes. We replaced ball control fencing with innovative landforms and landscaping to create a sense of enclosure and included passive-use, open space to the greatest possible extent.
