The 18 ha Quad Diamond Complex for the Langdon Community Campus is a joint-use site for both Rocky View County and the Rocky View School Division. Our work started with a conceptual design review and progressed to detailed design, development permit, and construction. The conceptual design stage included reviewing spectator and field area separation, connection between existing and future facilities, and site circulation. The detailed design of playing surfaces (grass/turf), shale infield and warming track, outfield fencing, side fencing, dugouts, grading, drainage, irrigation, and preparing a landscape plan. Backstop, dugout, and all fencing details were also included in our scope. Challenges with the project included reducing earthwork costs and providing proper drainage for the natural grass sport fields and shale baseball infields.
Construction was from April 2020 to October 2021 and faced challenges due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. However, Binnie successfully delivered this project that now forms an important component of Rocky View County and Rocky View School Division’s recreation facilities.
