From 2016 to 2019, Binnie was retained to provide civil engineering consulting services to the City of Surrey for the expansion of the Surrey Fire Training Centre. This project provided new facilities for the training of Surrey firefighters.
The Binnie team worked with a multi-disciplinary land development team including mechanical engineers, landscaping architects, architects, and the City of Surrey.
The Surrey Fire Training Centre sought to provide additional training facilities such as new practical training areas and classrooms. Additionally, practical space such as a car wreck pad was added for members to take apart cars. Our team completed the following:
- onsite servicing and grading
- design of onsite servicing and grading of the parking lot
- acted as erosion and sediment control monitors for the project, which borders on a protected watercourse
One of the challenges included extensive underground piping that needed to remain and navigated around with the new proposed piping. Our team navigated this challenge using extensive surveys and application of engineering best practices to anticipate the depth and locating of the underground piping.
