This $20 million park project provides new recreational facilities that support Yorkson Middle School, surrounding neighbourhoods, and the Township of Langley, enhancing access to sports and leisure spaces for the community.
Community Impact
Binnie supported the Township of Langley in developing a 20-hectare parcel into a new community park. Once complete, the park will provide a wide range of recreational opportunities, including both structured and casual use, improving access to outdoor space and encouraging community health and activity.
Binnie’s Role
Binnie previously developed a 25-year phased Master Plan for the site and is now involved in the detailed design for Phase 1. This phase includes natural grass sports fields, artificial turf fields, a splash park, a dog park, an adventure playground, and parking areas.
A unifying design theme was created to guide the park layout and establish a unique identity. The design aims to support the high programming demands typical of a sports-focused community park while remaining welcoming and accessible to all residents.
Challenges
The project needed to meet both intensive sport programming requirements and broader community recreation needs. Balancing these priorities was a key design consideration when planning for these diverse groups.
Notable Achievements
- Integrated multiple park features into a cohesive and accessible design
- Balanced active sport uses with informal and leisure programming
