GCT Canada Limited Partnership engaged Binnie at the outset of an ambitious project: to convert Deltaport container terminals intermodal yard into Canada’s first semi-automated rail yard. The upgrades included restructuring the rail track and rail-mounted gantry cranes for improved rail movement and switching, and to allow for semi-automation of the crane operation to increase rail capacity and container throughput at this busy port.

Our approach included multiple construction stages, to allow continuous operation of the intermodal yard during the terminal upgrade.
