Calvin Lui P.Eng.is the Division Manager for Binnie’s Highway Design Group where he leads a team that works on significant transportation infrastructure projects across British Columbia. Growing up, Calvin was always interested in the sciences, which ultimately led him to pursue a career in civil engineering. After graduating from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Applied Science in 2015, Calvin began working at Binnie as a Highway Design Engineer. Over time, he has progressed into increasingly senior roles within the team, taking on greater responsibility and leadership.
For Calvin, the most rewarding part of his job is seeing his projects progress from a design on the computer into constructed infrastructure that positively impacts the community. He enjoys solving challenging problems using a collaborative approach. The people and work environment are also a large reason why he has stayed and grown his career at Binnie.
Outside of work, you can find Calvin spending time with his family and friends. He is an avid soccer fan and organizes Binnie Soccer, a weekly drop-in session that provides an opportunity for Binnie staff to connect with both internal colleagues and external clients while playing “the beautiful game.” He also enjoys traveling and is always looking for interesting places to visit on vacation. His advice is to always aim to keep a good work-life balance!
“I am lucky to work with such a positive and supportive team. I think the trust and respect we have for each other allows us to come up with creative solutions on our projects.”
