Over the last 37 years, James Martens worked his way from construction laborer to Vice President, Chief Operating Officer, and principal owner of Binnie, a successful consulting engineering firm. While the road has been long, James has worked tirelessly to learn and develop into the business leader he is today.
As COO, James oversees the operations of all groups and their reporting divisions in the delivery of projects – this includes service lines in transportation engineering, project services, northern services, municipal services, land development, landscape architecture, sports and recreation, and construction services. James has delivered an impressive number of municipal, land development, and parks projects, working extensively with cities across the Lower Mainland. He has established excellent working relationships with municipal engineering managers who continue to engage him in managing projects to the present day. Outside the company, James volunteers with several organizations. He is a Past President of the Municipal Services Association – a collective of firms who provide services to municipalities. James is also a long time member, former Vice President, and currently the Secretary of the Public Works Inspectors Society and continues to assist with reviewing applications for certification in his role on the Certification Board.
