Binnie to commit $100,000 in support of the Trades and Technology Complex at BCIT over the next five years.
Binnie and BCIT have been intrinsically linked for decades. Many Binnie employees graduated or have taken courses at BCIT, which helped them become the engineers, technologists, professionals, and leaders they are today. These BCIT alumni can be found across our various divisions, including our leadership team.
Throughout the years, our staff has participated and continues to actively participate in BCIT events like annual CSCE Professional Nights, BCIT Student Association’s Industry Nights, career fairs, and student mixers to answer questions about the consulting engineering industry and to share their personal career experiences. Binnie COO Tom Rabey, AScT, PMP, currently serves on the Program Advisory Committee for the Civil Engineering program at BCIT, and Project Engineer Alyssa Hermann, P.Eng., M.Eng., was featured in a 2022 BCIT promotional video to support and advance women in engineering.
Our active bursaries—the Robert Binnie Memorial Award and the Darwin and Sara Lamont Appreciation Award—have been helping support high-performing engineering and technology students since 1994 and 2018 respectively. On the project front, our relationship with BCIT has also produced some great collaborative efforts. We have helped deliver many campus projects, including:
- SE06 Roof Replacement
- Telus Theatre
- CARI Visual Arts and 3D Animation Classroom
- Guichon Creek Riparian Setback Area Restoration
- BCIT North Campus Infrastructure Project (recipient of the Envision Gold Award for Sustainable Infrastructure by the ISI)
To further our relationship as an active partner with BCIT, Binnie will commit $100,000 over the next five years in support of the new BCIT Trades and Technology Complex, which will be anchored by the Concert Properties Centre for Trades and Technology at the Burnaby campus. The Concert Properties Centre will be the hub for collaboration between students in trades, technology, engineering, and architecture studies, with each space purpose-built. For example, the third-floor medium seminar room will be a space to share knowledge and foster industry connections. This room will provide a mix-used space where industry experts, such as Binnie, can hold presentations for BCIT students. Binnie’s support of the Trades and Technology Complex is one of the many steps in our ongoing journey with BCIT, which we expect to further strengthen over the years.
