The City of North Vancouver invested considerable effort to actively engage the public, community members, and stakeholders in the planning and design process to update the sport facility at Fen Burdett Stadium. The city required a sports field expert to design and construct a new multi-million-dollar track and field facility and retained Binnie to help with the project.
Binnie initially worked on a feasibility study to help consider the City’s vision of developing an artificial turf field (ATF), community recreation track, and fitness park facility and to achieve a centre of field sport excellence and focal point for the community.
A focus of our detail design for the multi-use facility was inclusivity often absent from many sports complexes. We incorporated innovative landforms to help ball control and create a sense of enclosure. Passive-use open spaces were also maximized surrounding for use by other park visitors.
